Welcome to the Ackerman/Akerman Genealogy Wiki

A new concept in doing Genealogy

A Wiki can be created or edited by anyone (Registered Users). I've seen a little bit about other using a Wiki for Genealogy but I havne't explored them yet.

As this project evolves make sure you check here first to see any format changes and you will see pages in various states of change as it will take time to impliment the change on all pages.

The first things I want in formating is this.

Lead off your new page with the individual name at the top of the page using the H1 button.

====== First Middle Last ======

All names should be created using the internal link format using 2 [ brackets first_middle_last if you don't know the middle name use an initial if you don't know the initial don't put one then use the Pipe character | then type out the name like you want it to appear followed by 2 ] closing brackets.

Here's an example:

[[first_middle_last|First Middle Last]]

Will look like this First Middle Last.

Go ahead and click it and you see the page where you can create a document for this subject.

Before you add a new name make sure that a page doesn't already exist first by doing a search on the name. If a page already exist go ahead and use it. If it doesn't exist then go ahead and do a link.

When a link is clicked that doesn't have a page it will see the creat page tab. You can then create the page and add information.

Pleas read the Syntax document for other formating.

Namespace / Page Names

This would be a Page Name.

id=somename

This would be a Namespace (think of it as a directory).

id=somename:somename

The somename before the colon is a directory or namespace. the somename after the colon is a page name in that directory (maybe related to the Namespace)

Likewise

id=somename:othername:somename

would have a Page Name called somename in a Namespace called othername inside the Namespace called somename.

Page Names can have the same name as namespace's. So you could have a Namespace for johnnancyackerman with a page called johnnancyackerman and it would look like this.

id=johnnancyackerman:johnnancyackerman
